NGX jumps 2,309 points as stocks notch winning week; NASD OTC market falls

SAT SEPT 26 2026-theGBJournal| The Nigerian equities market closed the week higher despite Friday’s nervous breakdown, buoyed by renewed buying interest in SEPLAT (+7.3%), DANGCEM (+1.6%), HBMNG (+4.4%), GTCO (+5.4%) and ZENITHBANK (+5.1%).

Consequently, the All-Share Index advanced by 0.9% w/w to 252,113.41 points while market capitalisation closed higher by 0.92% w/w to N163.66 trillion,

The month-to-date and year-to-date returns to +3.2% and +62.0% respectively.

Similarly, all other indices finished higher with the exception of NGX Insurance, NGX Lotus II, NGX Sovereign Bond indices which depreciated by 0.52%, 0.13% and 0.003% respectively.

Trading in the top three equities, namely Fidelity Bank Plc, Fortis Global Insurance Plc and Zenith Bank Plc (measured by volume), accounted for 2.020 billion shares worth N54.057 billion in 21,385 deals, contributing 43.08% and 22.45% to the total equity turnover volume and value respectively.

Losses were seen in MTNN (-3.03% w/w), FIRSTHOLDCO (-2.13% w/w), DANGSUGAR (-0.77% w/w), and WEMABANK (-3.91% w/w) shares.

On market activity, total volume and value traded increased by 45.0% w/w and 1.6% w/w, respectively.

Sectoral performance was broadly in line with the overall market sentiment, as the Oil & Gas (+3.5%), Banking (+3.1%), Industrial Goods (+1.6%) and Consumer Goods (+0.6%) indices advanced, while the Insurance (-0.5%) index closed lower for the week.

In Friday’s session, the ASI declined by 0.01%, ending a four-session winning streak.

Losses in TOTAL (−10.00%), LEGENDINT (−9.09%), CAVERTON (−8.05%) and FIRSTHOLDCO (−5.09%) outweighed gains in ZICHIS (+10.00%), CMFC (+9.76%), ABCTRANS (+9.68%) and ROYALEX (+9.09%).

All five sectoral indices closed the week up. The Banking index led the gainers with 7.63% w/w, followed by Oil & Gas at 7.33% w/w, Industrial goods at 4.73% w/w, Insurance at 3.26% w/w, and Consumer Goods at 1.14% w/w.

Market performance was mixed as volume traded fell by 27.54% to 708.85mn, while value traded rose by 16.31% to N58.35 billion. FIDELITYBK(+3.60%) led the volume chart, while SEPLAT (+0.00%) led the value chart.

Market breadth was positive at 1.24x, indicating that there were more advancers than decliners. ZICHIS (+10.00%) led the forty-six gainers, while TOTAL (−10.00%) led the thirty-seven losers.

The NASD OTC market closed Friday’s session on a negative note, as the NASD Security Index (NSI) declined by 0.49% to 4,411.13 points.

Market capitalisation also decreased by 0.38% to N2.65 trillion, while the market’s year-to-date (YTD) return moderated to 24.48% from 25.08% in the previous session.

Trading activity, however, strengthened as traded volume increased by 448.54% to 9.80 million units, while transaction value increased by 345.32% to N1.17 billion.

A total of 14 trades were executed, representing a 67.44% increase from the previous session.

SDFOODCOPLC emerged as the top advancer, gaining 0.19%, while SDNIPCOPLC was the top decliner, shedding 39.30%.
