SAT SEPT 26 2026-theGBJournal| Ardova Plc is set to acquire 100 per cent of Powergas, one of Africa’s largest compressed natural gas producers, in a deal that will give the Nigerian energy group a platform to expand CNG distribution nationwide and deepen its presence in the country’s fast-growing gas market.
The acquisition, announced by A.P. Moller Capital on Thursday, will combine Powergas’ gas-sourcing relationships, compression infrastructure and industrial customer base with Ardova’s nationwide retail, logistics and distribution network.
”Together, we intend to connect Nigeria’s abundant gas resources to industry, power and transportation, supporting President Bola Tinubu’s Presidential Initiative on Compressed Natural Gas and Electric Vehicles (PI-CNG & EV) and the federal government’s Decade of Gas Programme.” said Dr. Abdul Sowami, Executive Chairman of Ardova Plc.

Ardova plans to deploy CNG infrastructure across its network, targeting 100 refuelling sites within 24 months, as it seeks to expand access to gas for motorists and commercial fleets and eventually build a wider West African gas platform.
According to Ardova Plc management, on completion, the acquisition will combine Powergas’ gas sourcing relationships, compression infrastructure and industrial customer base with its nationwide retail, logistics and distribution network.
”Our focus now is execution; expanding compression capacity, bringing CNG into our retail network and connecting more industries and fleets to a relaibke domestic energy source,” says Ardova Managing Director.
Powergas Vice-Chairman believs Ardova;s national reach and Powergas compression backbone are a natural fit in the deal.
