SUN JULY 26 2026-theGBJournal| Nigeria’s Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA)convened aviation security officials in Abuja to review compliance with International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) security standards, assess progress on corrective action plans and strengthen the country’s aviation security oversight framework.
The four-day 2026 Aviation Security Strategic Meeting, organised by the NCAA’s Directorate of Aviation Security Regulations (DAVSEC), brought together management and technical personnel to evaluate aviation security oversight activities, review the implementation of ICAO’s Universal Security Audit Programme Continuous Monitoring Approach (USAP-CMA) Corrective Action Plans, assess departmental performance and enhance the Directorate’s regulatory capacity.
Speaking at the opening of the meeting, Director of Aviation Security Regulations Bernard Omogo described the gathering as a strategic forum to evaluate progress, address emerging security challenges and reinforce aviation security oversight in line with ICAO’s Standards and Recommended Practices (SARPs).
Omogo said the implementation of Quality Management Systems (QMS), the review of oversight tools and the harmonisation of operational procedures would improve the Directorate’s effectiveness in delivering its regulatory mandate.
The meeting featured presentations on the adoption of Quality Management Systems in aviation security operations, updates on the implementation of ICAO corrective action plans and operational reports from the Directorate.
Participants also reviewed legal and administrative enforcement procedures, regional office operations, audit reporting standards and the classification of aviation security audits and inspections.
Practical sessions focused on harmonising oversight tools, audit procedures, inspection checklists and guidance materials, while participants also considered proposed amendments to Nigeria’s national aviation security documents as part of efforts to strengthen the country’s aviation security regime.
