THUR MAR 26 2026-theGBJournal| The United Kingdom is set to increase visa application fees for travellers applying from outside the country, with new charges taking effect from April 8, 2026.
The revised pricing structure, earlier announced by the Home Office and updated on 18 March, 2026, affects a broad range of visitor categories, signalling a continued effort to adjust immigration-related revenues in line with administrative costs and policy priorities.
Under the new regime, the standard short-term visit visa—valid for up to six months—will rise from £127 to £135, marking an £8 increase.
While relatively modest, the adjustment reflects a broader pattern of incremental hikes across all visa categories, impacting tourists, business travellers, and short-term visitors seeking entry into the UK.
More significant increases are recorded for long-term visit visas. Applicants seeking a two-year visa will now pay £506, up from £475, while the five-year option climbs from £848 to £903.
The steepest jump applies to the 10-year long-term visa, which will cost £1,128—an increase of £69 from its current fee of £1,059—highlighting the premium placed on extended access to the UK.
Specialised visa categories are also affected. Visiting academics intending to stay for more than six months but no longer than a year will see fees rise from £220 to £234.
Similarly, applicants seeking visas for private medical treatment exceeding six months will face comparable adjustments, underscoring the across-the-board nature of the revisions.
The fee increases come at a time when demand for UK visas remains robust, particularly from emerging markets, including Nigeria, where travel for education, tourism, healthcare, and business continues to grow.
Analysts say the changes, though not drastic individually, could cumulatively raise the cost of mobility for frequent travellers and families.
Despite the upward revision, UK authorities maintain that the visa system remains competitive and continues to offer value through streamlined processing and access to a wide range of opportunities.
