FRI OCT 23 2026-theGBJournal| The Swiss government says the Ebola patient in Nigeria is the Ugandan-born wife of a Swiss diplomat based in Abuja and is believed to have contracted the virus while travelling in Uganda.

In a statement reported by Reuters, the Swiss government said the woman and her husband did not travel to the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DR Congo), contradicting earlier claims by Ugandan authorities.

The Swiss foreign ministry said the woman had been receiving treatment at a private clinic in Abuja for about a week after developing symptoms.

It said she was believed to have contracted the virus while travelling in Uganda approximately two weeks earlier.

Her husband, a Swiss diplomat based in Abuja, is in isolation but has not shown any symptoms, according to the ministry.

The development comes amid concerns over the spread of Ebola and efforts by health authorities to establish the source of the infection and identify people who may have been exposed to the virus.

The World Health Organization has said the source of the patient’s exposure remains unconfirmed.
