SUN JULY 19 2026-theGBJournal| Mrs Oyinkansola Badejo-Okusanya, SAN, has been elected the 33rd President of the Nigerian Bar Association, becoming the first female to be elected in the position in association’s history.
She emerged from the field of male dominated competition to secure victory at the end of intense 24-hour electronic voting that finished in the early hours of Sunday.
She polled 12,317 votes, equivalent of 47.18% of the total 26, 106 votes cast.
”I pledge to lead with integrity, courage, humility, fairness, and accountability. I will be a President for every member of the Nigerian Bar Association.
Together, we will build an Association where every lawyer has the opportunity to earn better, live better, and practice better, said emotional, but elated Badejo-Okunsanya, in her victory speech.
”I am truly humbled by the confidence that members of the Nigerian Bar Association have reposed in me by electing me to serve as your President,” she adds
Badejo-Okusanya thanked Bar Members for believing ”in our shared vision of A BOLDER BAR THAT WORKS FOR EVERYONE.”
”This victory is not mine alone; it belongs to every member who believed that our Association can be stronger, more inclusive, more responsive, and better positioned to serve the interests of all lawyers.”
Oyinkansola Badejo-Okusanya, SAN, FCIArb (Mrs. B) is Partner, ALP NG & Co, where she co-heads the Litigation and Dispute Resolution Practice of the law firm.
She was called to Bar in 2002 after graduating first with a degree in English subsequently LL.B from the University of Lagos.
Her vast knowledge within the short period of being called to Bar drew attention and consequently led to her being called to serve as Special Assistant on Justice Sector Reform to then Lagos State Governor, Babatunde Fashola, 2007, under Attorney-General Olasdupo Shasore, SAN.
