THUR AUG 20 2026-theGBJournal| Finance Minister Taiwo Oyedele Wednesday received the British High Commissioner to Nigeria, Richard Montgomery during his final official engagement in the country, with both sides reflecting on the longstanding relationship between Nigeria and the United Kingdom and opportunities to deepen economic cooperation.
Their discussions focused particularly on trade and investment, affordable long-term financing and human capital development, while acknowledging areas where more work is needed to translate the strength of the bilateral relationship into greater investment flows, expanded trade, improved access to finance and more opportunities for businesses and people in both countries.
As Nigeria continues to implement economic reforms, partnerships that can mobilise capital, facilitate trade, transfer knowledge and skills, and support sustainable growth will remain important.
Oyedele thanked the High Commissioner for his service and contributions to strengthening Nigeria-UK relations and wished him every success in his next chapter.
The meeting underscored the enduring strength of the Nigeria-UK relationship, as well as the opportunity to translate that partnership into stronger economic and investment outcomes.
The relationship endures, and so does the opportunity to achieve much more together.
