WED SEPT 30 2026-theGBJournal| Nigeria’s banking system liquidity rose 37.01% to a record net positive N8.84 trillion, supported by repayments on Open Market Operations (OMO) instruments, market data showed.

The liquidity expansion helped ease short-term funding pressure, with the overnight rate falling 28 basis points to 20.86%.

In the fixed-income market, Treasury bills traded quietly, with the average yield unchanged at 17.8%.

OMO bills saw stronger demand, with average yields declining 5 basis points to 18.9%.

Federal Government bonds (FGN), however, remained under pressure.

The average yield rose 5 basis points to 15.7%, driven mainly by selling at the short end of the curve.

The short-end average yield climbed 15 basis points, led by a 103-basis-point increase in the MAR-2027 bond yield.

At the mid segment, average yields fell 2 basis points, supported by demand for the MAY-2033 bond, whose yield declined 17 basis points.

Yields at the long end were unchanged at 15.1%.

Nigeria’s Eurobond market moved in the opposite direction, closing firmer as sustained buying interest across the curve pushed the average yield down to 7.47%, from 7.50% in the previous session.
