TUE AUG 04 2026-theGBJournal| Nigerian equities market rose marginally on Monday following a huge move higher during regular trading, driven by sharp gains in some banking and tech stocks.

The benchmark All-Share Index (ASI) advanced by 0.19%, bringing the year-to-date (YTD) return to 57.92%, while market capitalisation increased by 0.18% to close at N158.61 trillion.

Market activity was mixed during the session. Total trading volume surged by 53.68% to 922.80 million shares, while the total value of transactions declined by 14.10% to ₦37.92 billion, indicating stronger participation but lower-value trades.

Market breadth remained negative, with 18 gainers, 25 losers, and 4 stocks closing unchanged, suggesting that selling pressure continued to outweigh buying interest across the broader market despite the positive close.

Sectoral performance was also mixed, with the Banking Index emerging as the sole gainer, advancing by 0.75%, while the remaining sectoral indices closed in negative territory.

ACCESSCORP emerged as the most actively traded stock by volume, with 166.64 million shares exchanged, while ARADEL topped the value chart, accounting for ₦4.59 billion worth of trades.

On the gainers’ chart, CAVERTON and ETERNA recorded the strongest price appreciation, while ETI and CADBURY posted the steepest losses during the session.

Similarly, the NASD OTC market closed Monday’s session on a positive note, with the NASD Security Index (NSI) gaining 2.08% to settle at 4,532.85 points.

Consequently, market capitalisation rose by 2.08% to N2.72 trillion, while the market’s year-to-date (YTD) return improved to 27.66%, from 25.06% in the previous session.

Market activity was mixed, as total traded volume advanced by 113.09% to 1.47 million units, while the value of transactions decreased by 13.05% to N65.24 million. A total of 31 trades were executed during the session.

Market sentiment was buoyed by SDCSCSPLC (+8.93%), which emerged as the session’s top gainer. Conversely, SDMRS (-10.00%) emerged as the top loser.
