TUE APRIL 28 2026-theGBJournal| Akwa Ibom is set to make aviation history on Saturday, May 2, 2026, as Victor Attah International Airport, Uyo, records its maiden international flight with Ibom Air’s inaugural service to Kotoka International Airport, Accra, Ghana.
The landmark takeoff marks a defining moment in the state’s economic and infrastructural transformation, signaling the successful elevation of Uyo into Nigeria’s growing network of international aviation hubs.
Backed by presidential approval and strategic investments by Governor Umo Eno’s administration, the milestone not only opens Akwa Ibom to the West African corridor but also strengthens its ambition to become a prime gateway for tourism, trade and investment.
While this maiden flight signals the commencement of international operations from Uyo, the official opening of the new terminal building and full commercial flight schedules will be announced in due course.
”This milestone marks another major step in our commitment to expanding aviation capacity, improving global connectivity, and positioning Akwa Ibom as a preferred destination for tourism, trade, and investment,” said State Govennor, Umo Eno.
Governor Eno expressed the profound appreciation of his administration to the President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, for granting approval, and to the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, for his efforts in ensuring the realization of this vision.
”The Government and people of Akwa Ibom State also appreciate the contributions of former governors of the State for their pioneering roles in the development of the aviation sector and reiterate their commitment to the sustained development of the aviation ecosystem for the economic advancement of the State,” Governor adds.
