FRI MAY 15 2026-theGBJournal| The Delta State Government has urged the Benin Electricity Distribution Company (BEDC) to ensure fair distribution of electricity across the state amid ongoing protest in Isoko North and South local government areas, major oil producing LGAs.

The Commissioner for Energy, Mr. Michael Anoka, made the appeal during a meeting with BEDC regional heads in Delta State.

The meeting followed complaints over persistent power outages in the Isoko area.

Anoka said the state government had made several interventions in the electricity sector to improve power supply.

He noted that the government was ready to collaborate with BEDC to ensure equitable electricity distribution from the National Grid.

The commissioner explained that Delta State has significant stranded power resources. He said the development informed the ministry’s decision to design an energy roadmap for the state.

Anoka stated that the government was working tirelessly to address electricity challenges across Delta State.

He said the administration of Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori remained committed to improving power supply.

According to him, decisive measures were being put in place to achieve stable electricity in the state. The commissioner appealed to residents to remain patient with the government’s efforts.

He assured Deltans that communities yet to be connected would soon benefit from the National Grid.

Speaking earlier, the leader of the BEDC delegation, Mr. Curtis Nwadei, appreciated the commissioner for the invitation. Nwadei assured the state government of BEDC’s commitment to partnership for improved and equitable power distribution.

Present at the meeting were the permanent secretary in the Ministry of Energy, Sir Byron Unini; the Director Electricity Power Supply, Stanley Efenudu, the deputy director, Electricity Power Supply, Edwin Eyeyanatu and others.
