MON NOV 02 2026-theGBJournal| Access Bank Plc, a subsidiary of Access Holdings Plc, has appointed Oluseyi Kumapayi as Deputy Managing Director responsible for African subsidiaries and Olanrewaju Bamisebi as Executive Director for Information Technology and Digitalisation.
The appointments, approved by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), take effect from October 27 and October 28, 2026, respectively, Access Holdings said in a statement notifying the Nigerian Exchange Limited and investors.
Kumapayi, who previously served as Executive Director, African Subsidiaries, has been elevated to the deputy managing director position, while Bamisebi joins the bank’s board from Access Holdings, where he was Executive Director, Information Technology and Digitalisation.
The appointments come as Access Holdings shifts its focus from expansion to improving profitability, capital efficiency, operational performance and shareholder returns.
Having established a banking presence across Africa and selected international markets, the group said it would prioritise improving returns from existing operations through more disciplined capital allocation, technology investment and better customer service.
Kumapayi’s elevation underscores the importance the group attaches to its African subsidiaries, where it aims to improve earnings, returns on capital and operational efficiency.
The transfer of executive responsibility for information technology and digitalisation from the holding company to Access Bank is intended to bring technology investment closer to the bank’s operations, customers and commercial activities.
The group said the move would help accelerate digital transformation, simplify operating platforms, strengthen resilience and improve execution across its banking operations.
Kumapayi’s experience
Kumapayi has more than 25 years of banking experience in financial management, strategy, risk, treasury and business development.
He joined Access Bank in 2002 and served as Group Chief Financial Officer from 2007 to 2020, contributing to the bank’s financial management and strategic development.
Since November 2020, he has been responsible for overseeing the bank’s operations across its African markets as Executive Director, African Subsidiaries.
In his new role, he will retain responsibility for the African subsidiaries, with an expanded mandate to improve profitability, capital productivity, operational performance and cross-border business integration.
He will also support the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer in the bank’s broader leadership and strategic management.
Kumapayi is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria. He holds an Executive MBA from IMD, Lausanne, and an Executive Master’s degree in Digital Transformation and Innovation Leadership from IE University, Madrid.
He also holds degrees from the Universities of Lagos and Ibadan and is an alumnus of Harvard Business School’s General Management Programme.
Bamisebi’s technology mandate
Bamisebi has more than 20 years of experience in technology transformation, digital banking, enterprise systems and operational management across the financial services sector and other industries.
Before his appointment, he was Executive Director, Information Technology and Digitalisation at Access Holdings, where he oversaw the group’s technology strategy and shared technology services, including digital banking infrastructure, enterprise platforms, data management and technology resilience.
He previously held senior positions at Equity Group Holdings Limited, including Group Director, Information Technology and Operations, and Managing Director of Finserve Africa.
He also served as Group Chief Information Officer at Diamond Bank and held other technology leadership positions at major Nigerian institutions.
At Access Bank, Bamisebi will oversee technology and digitalisation, focusing on improving operational efficiency, modernising and simplifying technology platforms, strengthening cybersecurity and operational resilience, and expanding digital solutions to improve customer experience and business performance.
The bank said the appointment would bring responsibility for technology transformation directly into its management structure, linking technology investment more closely to business priorities and financial performance.
Bamisebi holds a bachelor’s degree in Computing and Information Technology from the University of Derby, an MBA from Durham Business School and qualifications in Computer Science and Accounting.
He is also an alumnus of the Cambridge Judge Business School Senior Management Programme. He has undertaken executive education at leading international institutions and holds professional certifications in technology governance, enterprise architecture and information security.
Commenting on the appointments, Aigboje Aig-Imoukhuede, Group Chairman of Access Holdings, said the group was seeking to convert its expansion across Africa and other markets into stronger financial performance.
“Access Holdings has built a substantial banking franchise across Africa and beyond. Our strategic priority is now to translate that scale into superior performance, greater efficiency, stronger returns on capital and sustainable value for shareholders.
“These appointments reflect that priority. Mr. Kumapayi’s elevation reinforces our determination to improve the performance and contribution of our African subsidiaries, while Mr. Bamisebi’s appointment reflects a deliberate decision to bring executive technology leadership closer to the Bank’s operations, customers and commercial priorities.
“We believe that clearer accountability, stronger execution and disciplined investment in technology will be critical to the next phase of our development. Both executives bring the experience and leadership required to advance these objectives.”
Roosevelt Ogbonna, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Access Bank, said the bank would focus on improving productivity, efficiency and profitability while making better use of its capital and technology.
“Our focus is on building a more productive, efficient and profitable banking institution, making better use of our capital, technology and established market presence.
“Across our African subsidiaries, the emphasis will be on improving returns, strengthening execution and capturing greater value from our existing franchise. In technology, our priority is to simplify platforms, improve reliability, accelerate innovation and deliver better outcomes for our customers at a lower cost to serve.
“By integrating executive technology leadership more directly into the Bank’s management structure, we are strengthening the connection between technology investment and business performance. I look forward to working with both executives as we deliver on these priorities.”
The Board of Access Holdings congratulated Kumapayi and Bamisebi on their appointments and wished them success in their new positions.
