FRI, MARCH 20 2020-theG&BJournal- MTN South Africa is implementing the Competition Commission’s directives, which required the Mobile telecoms giant cut its data prices significantly. The cuts will take effect from 15 April, 2020.
Prices for its 1GB monthly data bundle will be cut by as much as 50%. MTN, in a press statement today on its website called the move ‘’voluntary responses to Competition Commission Data Market Inquiry.’’
MTN said in the statement issued by Leigh-Ann Chetty, Senior Manager, Public Relations, MTN SA: ‘’Following months of constructive discussions with the Competition Commission, as well as engagements with ICASA and the Department of Communications and Digital Technologies, MTN has developed a set of solutions in its continuing push to reduce the cost to communicate.’’
The telecoms firm said all of its sub-1GB 30-day data bundles will be reduced by up to 50%. It is also offering daily free 20MB allocation of data to all MTN customers to send pictures, messages, video and to browse the internet, using the Ayoba app.
“MTN believes that everyone deserves the benefit of a modern connected life and that starts with connectivity. The 20MB Ayoba Data Lifeline will ensure MTN customers are able to communicate with friends and family, every day, even when they are out of airtime. This is the equivalent of 600MB of free data per month, every month,” says Godfrey Motsa, MTN SA CEO.
