COVID-19 update-Nigeria: New cases spread to 5 as FG begins risk assessment for more relevant measures

    WED, MARCH 18 2020-theG&BJournal- The Federal Ministry of Health has announced 5 new cases of coronavirus (COVID-19) in Nigeria bringing the total number of confirmed cases to Nigeria 8.
    All 5 cases had a travel history to the United Kingdom and the USA.
    ‘’We urge Nigerians to remain calm as public health response activities are intensified across the country,’’ Health officials said Wednesday.
    The officials said, a detailed travel history of each case is being compiled and contact tracing has begun. They said the National Emergency Operations Center is supporting response in states and the Federal Government through the Federal Ministry of Health is conducting risk assessment to initiate other relevant measures.
    ‘’The Health Ministry through the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) will continue to provide accurate updates and take necessary measures to protect the health of Nigerians,’’ officials said.
    The news of the new confirmed cases comes as the country placed restrictions on travelers from all countries with COVID-19 cases of up to 1000 domestically.
    Countries specifically named are; China, Italy, Iran, South Korea, Spain, Japan, France, Germany, United States of America, Norway, United Kingdom, Netherlands and Switzerland.
    Over 200, 000 confirmed cases have been reported worldwide.
