…Clearer Group aims to provide that layer of confidence by helping customers identify credible vendors and manage the transaction through a structured process

TUE SEPT 01 2026-theGBJournal| Cross-border trade sounds simple enough: find what you want, find someone who can supply it, pay for it and get it delivered.

In reality, it can be far more complicated.

Questions around who to trust, how to pay, exchange rates, logistics, customs, clearing and financing can quickly turn a promising transaction into a difficult one.

It was against this backdrop that I sat down with Lucky Oyanna, Founder and CEO of Clearer Group, to understand how the company is approaching the opportunities—and challenges—around cross-border commerce.

His response was straightforward: Clearer Group wants to build a bridge.

A bridge that connects customers to credible suppliers, businesses to markets and trade opportunities to the finance and infrastructure needed to execute them.

“Our focus cuts across e-commerce, finance, payments and procurement,” Oyanna explained.

For someone looking to buy goods or invest in products from Africa, Clearer Group’s proposition is designed to remove some of the uncertainty that comes with dealing in unfamiliar markets.

The company can vet merchants, select vendors and help customers navigate the transaction, providing what Oyanna describes as the confidence needed to protect an investment.

The same model works in the opposite direction.
For African businesses looking to import from markets such as China, the challenge may not be finding a supplier but knowing whether that supplier can be trusted.

Clearer Group aims to provide that layer of confidence by helping customers identify credible vendors and manage the transaction through a structured process.

And this is where the proposition becomes broader than procurement.

Once the supplier has been identified, Clearer Group can support the customer with payments, foreign exchange, logistics, clearing and customs.

The idea is to take away the need for customers to coordinate multiple service providers across different stages of a transaction.

Building Around Commodities
Our conversation also touched on commodities, an area that sits naturally within Clearer Group’s broader trade ambitions.

Africa has enormous commodities potential, from agricultural products to natural resources.

Yet the value chain can be fragmented, with producers, buyers, financiers, logistics providers and international markets often operating in disconnected parts of the ecosystem.

For Oyanna, the opportunity is to help build those connections.

Clearer Group’s role in commodities is therefore not simply about buying and selling products. It is about creating a more coordinated pathway between source, buyer, payment, logistics and capital.

That same thinking extends into trade finance.

A business that successfully completes transactions and establishes a track record can potentially progress to financing, allowing it to increase its capacity and take on larger opportunities.

In other words, the transaction can become the beginning of a relationship rather than the end of one.

As our conversation progressed, one theme kept coming back: trust.

Trust in the supplier. Trust in the payment process. Trust that the goods will move. Trust that the transaction can be completed. And, ultimately, trust that a business can grow within an ecosystem built to support it.

That is the bridge Clearer Group is seeking to build.
Not simply a bridge between Africa and the rest of the world, but one between opportunity and execution.

For customers, it means having a partner to help navigate the complexity of cross-border trade.

For businesses, it means the potential to access new markets, suppliers, commodities and capital.

And for Clearer Group, it represents an ambition to become an important part of the infrastructure through which African commerce connects with the global economy.
