Benchmark index rally 1.2% as NGX market capitalization hits record N160.4 trillion

TUE AUG 11 2026-theGBJournal| The Nigerian equities market closed higher on Monday, with the NGX All-Share Index (ASI) advancing by 1.20% to close at 248,529.75 points.

Similarly, market capitalisation rose by 1.20% to record N160.42 trillion, while the market’s year-to-date (YTD) return improved to 59.71%, from 57.81% in the previous week.

The positive performance was driven by gains in AIRTELAFRI (+8.59%), UBA (+3.01%), and ZENITHBANK (+0.71%), which outweighed declines in AIICO (-2.38%), ETI (-9.92%) and CORNERST (-7.96%).

Trading activity was mixed during the session, with volume decreasing by 25.11% to 1.14bn units, while value increased by 1.37% to N7.02bn.

CONHALLPLC (+0.29%) topped the volume chart with 354.07mn units, while FIRSTHOLDCO (-2.34%) led the value chart with N5.12bn worth of trades.

Market breadth closed negative at 0.62x, indicating that there were more losers than gainers in the session. ETI (-9.92%) led the thirty-seven (37) losers, while CHAMS (+9.80%) topped the twenty-three (23) gainers.

The NASD OTC market also opened the week on a positive note, with the NASD Security Index (NSI) advancing by 0.44% to 4,678.08 points.

Consequently, market capitalisation rose by 0.44% to N2.81trn, while the market’s year-to-date (YTD) return improved to 32.01%, from 31.43% in the previous week.

Trading activity weakened in today’s session, with total traded volume declining by 81.48% to 535,756 units, while transaction value decreased by 93.94% to N6.00mn. A total of 36 trades were executed during the session.

On the performance table, SDFOODCPT (+9.09%) topped the gainers table while SD11PLC (-11.11%) was the only decliner in the session.
