NGX All-Share Index closes week 160bps higher as banking, telecoms shares lift market, market cap rises to N159.59 trillion

SAT JULY 25 2026-theGBJournal| The Nigerian equities market ended the week in the green, as the NGX All-Share Index gained 1.60% w/w to close at 246,357.40 points, while market capitalisation increased by 1.61% w/w to N159.59 trillion, bringing the year-to-date return to 58.96% from 56.45% in the previous week.

All other indices finished higher with the exception of NGX Consumer Goods, NGX Lotus II, NGX Growth, NGX Sovereign Bond and NGX Commodity indices which depreciated by 3.76%, 1.55%, 20.24%, 0.14% and 1.25% respectively.

Trading in the top three equities, namely First Holdco Plc, Access Holdings Plc and Guaranty Trust Holding Company Plc (measured by volume), accounted for 2.151 billion shares worth ₦170.793 billion in 44,768 deals, contributing 48.51% and 55.79% to the total equity turnover volume and value respectively.

The positive sentiment was driven by buying interest in stocks such as MTNN (+2.84% w/w), ZENITHBANK (+10.96% w/w), BUACEMENT (+17.56% w/w), and FIRSTHOLDCO (+25.59% w/w), which outweighed losses in BUAFOODS (-10.00% w/w), FIDELITYBK (-3.89% w/w), PRESCO (-10.00% w/w), and STANBIC (-2.34% w/w).

Fifty-seven equities appreciated in price during the week, higher than forty-four equities in the previous week. Thirty-eight (38) equities depreciated in price, higher than thirty-five equities in the previous week, while fifty-one equities remained unchanged, lower than sixty-seven recorded in the previous week.

In Friday’s session, the ASI and market capitalisation declined by 0.19%, driven by losses in PRESCO (-10.00%), THOMASWY (-9.93%), TRANSEXPR (-8.44%), ROYALEX (-7.86%), and LIVINGTRUST (-7.32%) which outweighed gains in CILEASING (+9.48%), RTBRISCOE (+8.61%), HONYFLOUR (+7.38%), AFRIPRUD (+6.98%), and LEGENDINT (+6.82%).

In Friday’s session, the ASI and market capitalisation declined by 0.19%%, driven by losses in PRESCO (-10.00%), THOMASWY (-9.93%), TRANSEXPR (-8.44%), ROYALEX (-7.86%), and LIVINGTRUST (-7.32%) which outweighed gains in CILEASING (+9.48%), RTBRISCOE (+8.61%), HONYFLOUR (+7.38%), AFRIPUID (+6.98%), and LEGENDINT (+6.82%).

Trading activity also weakened, as total traded volume declined by 27.72% to 565.46mn units, while the value of transactions dipped by 46.94% to N29.87bn. ACCESSCORP (+0.00%) led the volume chart with 128.01mn units, while ARADEL (+0.00%) led the value chart with N6.62bn worth of trades.

Market breadth remained positive at 1.40x, reflecting sustained buying interest, as advancers outpaced decliners. A total of thirty-five (35) stocks gained, led by CILEASING (+9.48%), while twenty-five (25) stocks declined, with PRESCO (-10.00%) emerging as the top loser.

In contrast, the NASD OTC market closed today’s session in the red, with the NASD Security Index (NSI) declining by 0.64% to 4,294.75 points. Consequently, market capitalisation also fell by 0.64% to N2.57trn, while the market’s year-to-date return moderated to 21.19% from 21.97% in the previous session.

Trading activity, however, strengthened during the session, as total traded volume increased by 693.95% to 2.99mn units, while the value of transactions increased by 71.59% to N69.40mn. A total of 55 trades were executed.

Market performance was supported by SDUBNPROP (+9.33%), which led the four (4) gainers, while SDFCWAMCO (-5.46%) led the two decliners in today’s session.
