SUN JUNE 28 2026-theGBJournal| Stephen Eustaquio struck in the second minute of stoppage time to earn Canada a dramatic 1-0 victory over South Africa on Sunday, sending the tournament co-hosts into the Round of 16 of the FIFA World Cup for the first time in their history.
The decisive goal came in the 92nd minute at a packed Los Angeles Stadium after a tense, hard-fought contest in which both sides created chances but struggled to find a breakthrough.
Canada’s historic qualification prompted head coach Jesse Marsch to hail his players as “Canadian heroes.”
The match pitted two nations seeking uncharted territory, with neither side having previously reached the World Cup knockout rounds.
