THUR 08 SEPT, 2022-theGBJournal| Great Britain and the world is in mourning for Queen Elizabeth 11 who died today at age 96 at Balmoral after a historic 70-year reign. The Queen’s death was made officially public at 6.30pm.
Her son Prince Charles, the former Prince of Wales, will now assume the throne as King Charles 111.
King Charles 111 said of her mother’s passing, ‘’the death of my beloved mother, Her Majesty the Queen, is a moment of the greatest sadness for me and all members of my family.’’
‘’We mourn profoundly the passing of a cherished sovereign and a much-loved mother. I know her loss will be deeply felt throughout the country, the Realms and the Commonwealth, and by countless people around the world.’’
The Queen’s death came after more than a year of the passing of her husband, Prince Philip.
Queen Elizabeth II visited Nigeria twice in 1956 and in 2003 respectively and her first visit to Nigeria was on 28th September 1956 to 16th September 1956. This was during the colonial era when the British were ruling over Nigeria. Her visit left an indelible mark in the minds of many Nigerians of the generation.
Former Governor of Anambra State and now Labour Party Nigeria Presidential candidate, Peter Obi said in a twitter post ‘’I am saddened to hear of the passing of Queen Elizabeth 11, the longest reigning monarch of United Kingdom,’’ adding ‘’my thoughts and prayers are with the Royal Family, the entire United Kingdom and the Commonwealth nations, over this irreplaceable loss.’’
