SAT, MAY 16 2020-theG&BJournal- Borussia Dortmund, Wolfsburg and Hertha Berlin made winning return to the German Bundesliga inside empty grounds, becoming the first European football league matches to be played during the coronavirus pandemic.
Dortmund scored an emphatic win 4-0 win over their near neighbours. The win takes them a point within the leader Bayern Munich, who plays on Sunday.
In the other early kick-offs, there were wins for Wolfsburg 2-1 away to Augsburg and Hertha Berlin 3-0 away to Hoffenheim. Dusseldorf drew 0-0 home to Paderborn while RB Leipzig and Freiburg played a 1-1 draw.
Leipzig moves to third place on 51 points ahead of Borussia Moenchengladbach on 49 points. Paderborn already languishing at the bottom of the table faces certain relegation while Dusseldorf looks set to follow, having earned just 23 points from 16 games.
Erling Haaland scored twice for Borussia Dortmund, the first from a cross from Thorgen Hazzard while Raphael Guerreiro scored two more to send Dortmund home with a comfortable win.
All the matches were played with strict hygiene protocols with players entering the pitch by different routes and using different changing rooms.
