… Restates commitment to infrastructural development of the State
TUE, MARCH 7 2017-DELTA State Governor, Senator Dr Ifeanyi Okowa has described the state’s huge investment in agriculture as necessary to create job opportunities for the country’s teeming unemployed youths.
The governor was speaking today when the Ukrainian Ambassador to Nigeria, Dr Valeri Alesandruk paid him a courtesy visit in Asaba.
He lauded Ukrain’s interests in investing in Nigeria’s agricultural sector, noting that while Delta State is rich in oil and gas, his administration was laying emphasis on agriculture because, it is the greatest employer of labour.
“We are interested in the agricultural sector and anything that will enhance that sector is something that we are open to, because, we believe that, that is the way out in terms of job creation and for our people to be able to fend for themselves,” Governor Okowa stated, disclosing that his administration was also, involved in skill acquisition programmes for the youths.
To Governor Okowa, the skill acquisition programmes were designed for the beneficiaries to become entrepreneurs in the nearest future, observing that it was important to boost employment opportunities in the country.
While commending the Ukrainian Ambassador for his country’s interest in investing in the country, Governor Okowa, stated that the warm relationship between Ukraine and Nigeria, especially in Delta State should be sustained as they are beneficial to the state and the two countries.
The governor who used the occasion to reel out some of his administration’s achievements, emphasized that the peace building process of his administration has yielded great results which has made the state an investment haven.
Dr Alesandruk who disclosed that he was on his first visit to Delta State, informed the governor and members of the state executive council that Ukrain was interested in doing business in the state, especially in the area of agriculture.
He commended the good business relationship that exists between his country and Nigeria.
In a separate development, Dr Ifeanyi Okowa reassured Deltans of his administration commitment to provide infrastructural development to all communities in the state.
Governor Okowa gave this assurance today in Asaba when he received in audience some indigenes of the Abraka.
He said that the state government would not relent in its efforts to bring development to all communities in the state stating “thanks to the people of Abraka for the commendation, I believe in justice, During my campaign I promised to do Justice to every community in Delta State, I will not abandon any community, we are hopeful and praying that things will turn around this year for greater delivery, we will continue to work with communities leaders and stakeholders”.
The governor thanked the traditional ruler and people of Abraka for the support and commendation in the infrastructural development of the community
Earlier, Chief Enamuotor has commended Governor Ifeanyi Okowa on his developmental strides in the state especially in Abraka Community despite the recession .and assured of the cooperation and support of the people of the community
“We the good people of Abraka community are here today to thank you for developmental stride in Abraka Community and Delta State as a whole , we are grateful and Marvell at your achievement within a short period of time, for what you have done in Abraka Community, we are promising you today that the good people of Abraka will always stand by you”
Also Speaking, Honourable Evance Ivwurie, Member Representing Ethiope East Local Government Area in the House of Assembly applauded Governor Okowa’s developmental strides in the area stressing “In Abraka, we appreciate your leadership, we thank you from our heart for your achievements in Abraka, we pray May God Almighty give this state more money for you to do more in achieving a more grater achievements”
