WED, JUN 10 2020-theG&BJournal- The Chairman of Kaduna State Task Force on COVID-19 and Deputy Governor Dr Hadiza Sabuwa Balarabe said in a statement last week that the government has been encouraged by the response from the stakeholders consulted with regards to reopening the economy amidst the COVID-19 pandemic.
He promised that clear guidelines for the reopening of approved sectors of the State’s economy will be published before the current Quarantine Order expires on Tuesday, 9th June 2020.
That promise was kept. Consequently, under the Quarantine Order No.2 of 2020, the State Government announced a broad guideline to lift the partial lockdown in place for weeks now. The new set of protocols will be in place in the first instance until 30th of June 2020, and subject to amendment, extension or renewal.
The new Quarantine Order now permits a significant reopening of the economy. It means that from today June 10 2020:
Restriction on inter-state movement is lifted, subject to a night-time curfew from 8pm to 5 am.
Businesses are now allowed to open, subject to the provision of thermometers for temperature checks, sanitizers or hand washing equipment and physical distancing measures within all facilities. But working hours will be from 9am to 3pm daily.
Church services allowed only on Sundays and Mosques are allowed to conduct only Friday Jumat services, for the time being, subject to compliance with the safety stipulations.
Transport operators must reduce capacity to not more than two passengers per row and not more than 50% of capacity.
Super markets and providers of personal services such as hair dressing and barbing saloons can reopen.
Hotels can fully open, but their restaurants and bars offering only will be tolerated only by room service. Restaurants however, will reopen after decontamination.
The State civil servants will be called back to work in phases and the schedule will be announced shortly by the State’s Head of Service.
But schools will remain closed.
Meanwhile, the State health officials as at Wednesday June 10 2020, have conducted a total of 2611 coronavirus test. 369 persons have tested positive, 127 cases are active. 12 deaths have been confirmed while 230 patients have been discharged.
