Voters give Russia’s President Putin nod to potentially stay in power until 2036

THUR, JULY 02 2020-theG&BJournal- Russians have voted in support of changes to the country’s constitution that includes allowing the 65-year old President Vladimir Putin to run for two more six-year terms in office.
The vote could potentially keep Putin in power until 2036.
According to Russia news agency, the country’s electoral commission Thursday announced voters were 77.9% in favour of the changes to the nation’s constitution and 21.2% against. Voter turnout was 65%, the commission said.
The constitutional changes was billed as a referendum and cover issues such as minimum wage and pensions.
Putin’s current term ends in 2024.
