WED AUG 13 2025-theGBJournal| VP Kashim Shettima, representing President Tinubu, Wednesday declared open the inaugural National Steel Summit 2025 themed ”Rebuilding and Consolidating Nigeria’s Steel Industry: Collaborative Actions for Sustainable Growth and Global Competitiveness.”
In his opening remarks the Vice President reminisced about the moribund Ajaokuta Steel Company saying, ”for many Nigerians, when we speak of steel, our minds return to Ajaokuta. We remember the promise of a crown jewel. We are now ready to make that dream a reality. We are not here to mourn missed opportunities. We are here to make the future.”
The Vice President welcomed stakeholders and called for collaborative action to rejuvenate Nigeria’s steel sector.
He equally noted the Summit’s critical role of advancing industrialization, promoting public-private partnerships and harnessing the sector’s vast potential for economic growth under the President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
The Summit brings together stakeholders to chart a path for revitalising the nation’s steel sector and enhancing its global competitiveness. It is seen as a platform for innovation, connecting traditional steel manufacturing with modern advancements to create a competitive and future-ready industry.
Key stakeholders will be critically evaluating the state of the steel industry, explore investment opportunities, identify policy and infrastructure gaps, and adopt a consensus roadmap for the revival and sustainable development of Nigeria’s steel sector.
The National Steel Summit 2025 is hosted by the Ministry of Steel Development.
