SAT, JUNE 16 2018-theG&BJournal-Antione Greizemann stepped up very calmly and took it- 1-0 for France. But it came after the referee from Uruguay was called to the review the VAR screen. Two minutes later Umtiti gifted the soccer-roos a penalty to draw level and opened up the game. Jedinak’s restored parity in the mostly scrappy game.

Austrialia held out in a much disciplined defensive formation playing six at the back and France was left bemused most of the game. The entire game was played in the midfield.

In a game riddled with loads of free-kicks and fouls, Australia grew in confidence after their goal and held on for a good spell that put France on the back foot for 10 minutes.

But Paul Pogba lifted France with a sublime 81st minute goal after an interchange. The goal eventually offered France the three points on the card. The Manchester United midfielder’s goal apparently broke the Aussies resolve as France pushed forward in droves resulting in corners and more free kickers.

France are among the favourites to reach the final in Russia with their star-studded team.
