WED, MAY 9 2018-theG&BJournal-A direct bearing on future US diplomatic agreement. Except Israel, the rest of the world will be reluctant to enter into any future agreement with the US, be it on trade, climate change or nuclear deals after US President, Donald Trump shredded the Iran deal yesterday.

The challenge also includes narrowing the already widening diplomatic rift between Trump and leaders of major world powers- US NATO allies, China and Russia and also highlights the diplomatic race that has broken out between the US and Russia as they try to cement their positions in the middle east.

The UK Prime Minister, Theresa May, German Chancellor Angela Merkel and the French President Emmanuel Macron expressed regret and shock in a joint press statement.

‘’Together, we emphasise our continuing commitment to the JCPoA. This agreement remains important for our shared security,’’ they said. ‘’We recall that the JCPoA was unanimously endorsed by the UN Security Council in resolution 2231. This resolution remains the binding international legal framework for the resolution of the dispute about the Iranian nuclear programme. We urge all sides to remain committed to its full implementation and to act in a spirit of responsibility.’’

The UK Prime Minister say she will work with its European and other allies to ensure the deal is secured.

Iranian President Hassan Rouhani said Tuesday that his government remains committed to a nuclear deal with world powers, despite the U.S. decision to withdraw, but is also ready to resume uranium enrichment should the accord no longer offer benefits.

Russia say they are ‘’deeply disappointed,’’ and described the decision as a blatant violation of international law.’’  The Washington Post Editorial Tuesday said ‘’Trump decision on Iran just brought us closer to war.’’ The Turkish leader Erdogan warned it will ’cause instability and new conflicts’

Iranian President Hassan Rouhani said, there was a only “short time” to negotiate with the countries remaining in the nuclear deal, and warned that Tehran could start enriching uranium more than ever in the near future.

“I have ordered Iran’s atomic organization that whenever it is needed, we will start enriching uranium more than before,” Rouhani said in a nationally televised address.

UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres urged the other signatories of the Iran nuclear deal to remain committed to the deal, despite the US withdrawal.

“I call on other JCPOA participants to abide fully by their respective commitments under the JCPOA and on all other member-states to support this agreement,” Guterres said in a statement, referring to the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), the formal name of the nuclear deal.

The architect of the Iran nuclear deal, former US President Barack Obama said Donald Trump had made ‘’a serious mistake’’

The impact of the deal is already reverberating in the Middle East and it is expected to escalate in the coming days with more US interests at risk.

President Trump had called the deal ”defective” while dispensing with it.
