TUE, 15 DEC, 2020-theGBJournal- Joe Biden, US President-elect, and Kamala Harris, Vice President-elect moved one step closer to inauguration next month after Electors on Monday cast 306 electoral votes to cement Biden’s victory over Donald Trump in last month’s general election.
Trump garnered 232 votes as the loser but he is yet to concede he lost six weeks after the election. And he has been all over US Courts seeking to overturn the election while making wild and unsubstantiated allegations about the election he claims was stolen from him. All of his cases so far have been thrown out or dismissed for lack of merit or proof of fraud.
The Electors cast their votes nationwide smoothly amidst pockets of protests and Biden praised the country’s democratic institutions saying they ‘’proved to be resilient and strong’’ despite the pressure by President Trump and his allies.
He said ‘’once again, the rule of law, our constitution, and the will of the people have prevailed. Our democracy-pushed, tested, and threatened-proved to be resilient, true, and strong.’’
Kamala Harris also praised the election process saying ‘’the integrity of our elections remains intact,’’ adding, ‘’now it’s time to turn the page as we’ve done throughout our history to unite. To heal’’
