SAT, FEB 01 2020-theG&BJournal– Prime Minister Boris Johnson kept to his promise of leading the United Kingdom out of the European Union (EU) Bloc by 11pm January 31 2020 and millions of Brexiteers heralded the moment `with jubilation and celebration around the country.
Johnson called it a moment of hope, ‘’a moment many people thought would never come’’ and said Brexit would unleash the UK’s potential-but warned there will be more bumps in the road. The UK now begins an 11 month transition period with the EU after 47 years of membership, during which time the government will race to strike a trade deal before December.
Brexiteers marked the occasion with a huge party at the London’s parliament square headlined by the staunch Brexit leader Nigel Farage who is no longer a member of the European parliament.
‘’There is one thing above all we must celebrate tonight and it this,’’ he told the huge crowd that gathered. ‘’The reason we are here tonight is because Westminster became detached from the people in this country. The people has have beaten the establishment. The real winner tonight is democracy. And I am someone who believes we should be pro-Europe, but not the European Union.’’
The Prime Minister giving his address to the nation said ‘’I understand all those feelings and our job as the Government-my-job- is to bring this country together now and take us forward. And the most important thing to say tonight is that this is not an end but a beginning. This is the moment when the dawn breaks and the curtain goes up on a new act in our great national drama.’’
The French Prime Minister Emmanuel Macron was hard-hit by the Brexit and described the day as a ‘’sad day.’’ He picked out the Leavers for his most bile comment yet on the UK’s decision to leave and said they disseminated lies, exaggerations and simplifications during the referendum.
But Boris Johnson is adamant. He said ‘’we have obeyed the people. We have taken back the tools of self-government. Now is the time to use those tools to unleash the full potential of this brilliant country and make better the lives of everyone in every corner of our united kingdom.
