The Ilorin-based Baseball Tomorrow Academy on Thursday said the planned donation of equipment to it by the U.S. Embassy would enhance development of the sport at the grassroots. The founder of the academy, Peter Imonikhe, said in Lagos that the donation would hold alongside an educative programme from June 2 to June 4 in Kwara.
Imonikhe said that the academy was established to discover and nurture budding talents.
“We are putting everything in place to ensure that the donation and education talk by the embassy go as planned.
“The U.S. Ambassador to Nigeria, Mr James Entwistle, has promised that he will be on ground to present the equipment to the academy.
“The event will no doubt have a significant impact on the academy and the sport at large,’’ Imonikhe said.
Also, Kehinde Laniyan, secretary of the Nigeria Baseball and Softball Association (NBSA), described the effort of the academy as commendable.
Laniyan said that the donation would spur other clubs and academies to intensify effort in getting support to promote the sport.
“When I heard that the U.S. embassy in Nigeria will donate equipment to the academy, I was delighted.
“It’s a good thing for the sport and I hope other clubs will also solicit for such support,’’ he said.
Baseball Tomorrow Academy was founded in 2014.
