Twist of faith as Kano State House of Assembly kills 2019 law that sacked Muhammadu Sanusi 11 as Emir of Kano

THUR MAY 23 2024-theGBJournal|The Kano State House of Assembly has passed into law a Bill by written by the Kano State Emirates Councils seeking to return the Kano Emirate to its pre-2019 status.

The new law could see the outspoken, ex Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) governor Muhammadu Sanusi 11 return as the Emir after he was unceremoniously sacked in 2020.

Here is what the new law says;

This Bill may be cited as the Kano State Emirates Councils (Repeal) Bill, 2024 (1445 A. H).

The Kano State Emirates Council Law, 2019 (1445 A. H) dated 5th December, 2019 (1445 A. H), Kano State Emirs (Appointment and Deposition) (Amendment) Law, 2019 (1440 A. H) dated 8th May, 2019 and Kano State Emirate Council (Amendment) Law, 2020 (1442 (A. H) dated 5th December, 2019 (1445 A. H) are hereby repeal.

All Offices created in the newly created five Emirates under the repealed principal Law, dated 5th December, 2019 are hereby abrogated. All appointment made under the said repealed Principal Law dated 5th December, 2019, are hereby set aside.

The emirates in question are Bichi, Rano, Gaya and Karaye. All on creation had five first class emirs.

All traditional office holders and tittle holders elevated or appointed to office created under the repealed Principal law, dated 5th December, 2019 shall revert to their position where such position previously existed under recognized custom and traditions prior to the enactment of the repealed Principal Law dated 5th December, 2019.

The Governor shall take all necessary measures to restore the status of the Kano Emirate System to its positions prior to the enactment of the repealed Principal Law dated 5th December, 2019.

The Commissioner responsible for Local Government shall oversee all transitional arrangements including how best to deal with assets and liabilities of the abolished emirates and new structure created under the repealed Principal Law dated 5th December, 2019.
