

MON MAY 12 2025-theGBJournal| The inaugural National Policy Dialogue on the Legislative Agenda of the 10th House of Representatives kicked-off on Monday in Abuja with House Speaker, Abbas Tajudeen headlining the event.
The Dialogue, convened by 10th House of Representatives and Legal Advocacy Centre (PLAC) with the support the UK Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office, and the National Assembly Library Trust Fund, ”represents a significant moment of reflection and forward planning,” the House of Representatives said in a statement signed its spokesman, Rep. Akin Rotimi Jr.
It is aimed at deepening collaboration with stakeholders in government, civil society, the private sector, and the international development community.
Here are excerpts from presentation made by key speakers of the event today:
House Speaker, Abbas Tajudeen: This Policy Dialogue is a clear demonstration of our shared effort to promote parliamentary accountability, transparency and a truly citizen-driven legislature and serves as a precursor to the upcoming OPEN NASS week where we will open our doors to scrutiny and present our report card.
Hon Yakubu Dogora, Speaker of the 8th House of Representatives: By throwing this discourse open and engaging with relevant stakeholders, the outcomes of its implementation will reflect the needs of all stakeholders. To bring the bold declarations of this Agenda into being, it will require gravitas, gumption and grit.

Benjamin Kalu, Deputy Speaker House of Representatives: The House of Representatives has considered over 1059 bills covering every facet of national life, including constitutional amendments, sector-specific reforms, security and the economy.
Clement Nwankwo, Executive Director, PLACNG: It is important that the Speaker has put this National Policy Dialogue together and provides the opportunity to review the work done and present it to citizens.
Gaitier Mignot, Head of the European Union Delegation to Nigeria and to ECOWAS: The debate on the Additional Seats Bill is a key issue. It is an opportunity to make history and mark a turning point in women’s participation in politics in Nigeria. The most prosperous countries in the world are those where women participation is highest.
Muhammad Maigari Dingyadi, Minister of Labour and Employment: This Policy Dialogue is a platform to engage with policymakers, experts and fellow Nigerians.
Permanent Secretary of the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (OSGF), Dr. Maurice Mbaeri, representing the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF),Senator George Akume: Today’s Dialogue on the Legislative Agenda underscores a commitment to strengthen democracy, accountability and inclusive development through robust legislative action.
