SAT. 01 APRIL 2023-theGBJournal | Minister of State for Petroleum, Timipre Sylva has resigned this week to seek a new term as governor of oil-rich Bayelsa State.

Sylva has since last week handed over his resignation letter to President Muhammadu Buhari who also doubles as the Nigeria’s Petroleum Minister.

Sylva has not commented on his resignation but sources say he is expected to pick a ticket under the ruling All Progressives Congress party to contest his state’s gubernatorial position.

He served as governor of Bayelsa between from 2007 when he won election as candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party until 2012.
