The Vatican releases detail of Pope Emeritus Benedict XV1’s funeral

SUN. 01 JANUARY, 2023-theGBJournal| The Vatican has published details of the funeral of the late Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI who died Saturday aged 95.

Pope Francis will preside over the funeral on January 5, 2023 at the St. Peter’s Square which begins January 2, 2023 when the his body will be at the St. Peter’s Basilica so that faithfuls can bid farewell to the great Pope whose pontification declared the Gospel of Love of Christ.

His remains will rest at the Mater Ecclesiae monastery until the morning of Monday, 2 January. The Vatican said ”official visits or public prayers are not foreseen.”

The Vatican said, ”at the conclusion of the eucharist celebration by Pope Francis, the final Commendation and Valediction will take place. The Pope Emeritus’ remains will then be taken into the Basilica of St. Peters and then to the Vatican Grottos, where he will be laid to rest.”

The late Pope was born in Markl, Germany, on 16 April 1927. On 19 April 2005, he was elected as the 265th Pope. He passed away on Saturday at 9.34 am in his residence at the Vatican’s Mater Ecclesiae Monastery.
