MON 24 MAY, 2021-theGBJournal- AFP News Agency reports that the Malian President Ba Ndaw, Prime Minister Moctar Ouane has been taken to military base, quoting military officials.

Reuters reports also that the defence minister Souleymane Doucoure besides the President and PM were taken to the base in Kati outside the capital Bamako, bringing further tension to the country after a military coup in August removed then President Ibrahim Boubacar Keita.

Their detention comes shortly after a cabinet reshuffle.

The US Embassy in Mali say they have received reports of increased military activity in Bamako and encouraged their citizens to avoid non-essential travel inside the city at this time, and monitor local media updates.

The Embassy has since issued a security alert to its citizens.

‘’We are closely following reports of increased military activity in Bamako. Monitor local news for updates,’’ the Embassy said.
