Taraba Govt., Pharm firm to spend N100m on Hepatitis

JALINGO, AUGUST 11, 2016 – The Taraba Government in conjunction with Roch Pharmaceutical Company would spend N100 million on the prevention and treatment of Hepatitis B and C in the state.Dr Innocent Vakkai, the state Commissioner for Health, made this known at a media briefing in Jalingo on Thursday.

According to him, the funds will be used in procurement of Hepatitis drugs and testing machines.

He said available statistics had revealed that there was high prevalence rate of Hepatitis B and C in the state.

Vakkai said the pharmaceutical company would provide testing machines for the disease and monitor the treatment process of patients.

The commissioner noted that the state-of-the-art testing machine would be the first of its kind to be found in the North East sub-region.

Vakkai advised the general public to go for Hepatitis test at the state specialist hospital in Jalingo to know their status.

He stressed that early detection of the disease would enhance its treatment process.
