KADUNA, AUGUST 30, 2016 – The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Kaduna State Command, has taken the speed limiter device campaign to places of worship in the state to ensure its success. The command’s Head of Operations in the state, Malam Salisu Galadunci, told the News Agency of Nigeria in Kaduna on Tuesday that it was because of their influences on the society.

President Muhamadu Buhari had directed the FRSC to commence the enforcement of the speed limiter device on Oct. 1.

Galadunci said that taking the campaign to places of worships became necessary, considering the influences religious leaders have on their followers.

He said that the followers usually regard their leaders’ words as the `gospel truth’.

“We equally want to involve the religious leaders in the campaign because thousands of people listen to their sermons and exhortations on daily basis.

“Thousands of Muslim faithful gather at Friday’s Jumat service usually led by imams just as same Christians do during Sunday church services usually led by pastors.

“This is outside other daily gatherings for prayers or fellowships by members of both denominations.

“We want to leverage on the influences the religious bodies have on their followers to deepen the awareness campaign, and ensure compliance before the enforcement date,’’ Galadunci said.

Galadunci said that several campaigns were on in the 11 units under the command across the state.

He said that the command had also involved the electronic and the print media in the campaigns to reach out to more motorists for compliance.

“We have gone to motor parks, social gatherings, streets, offices and engaged radio and television stations to enlighten vehicle owners on the gains of installing the speed limiter device in their vehicles,’’ he said

According to him, the device has the potential of reducing accidents on the highways by 50 per cent and reduces injuries sustained by passengers in the advent of accidents.

He said that the device would also facilitate FRSC’s aim of ensuring zero fatality on the roads.

“The device will also reduce fuel consumption by vehicles. It will be environmentally friendly to users by reducing carbon emissions among other benefits”.

He said that there were approved vendors across the country where motorists could buy the devices and installed them in their vehicles.

Galadunci, who said that Kaduna State was yet to get one, assured vehicle owners that a vendor would be allocated to the state before the commencement of the enforcement date.
