SOKOTO, AUGUST 17, 2016 – The Sokoto State House of Assembly Committee on Local Government has promised to move for the amendment of laws governing revenue collection in the local governments. The committee’s Chairman, Alhaji Habibu Modachi (APC- Isa), made the promise on Wednesday during a meeting with the 23 local government chairmen in the state.
Modachi said that the meeting was to familiarise members of the committee with the local government chairmen.
“It is only by amending the laws that the councils will be able to generate the required revenue for the development of the state.
“Moreover, as the country is facing so much challenge in the economic sector, it deems it necessary to improve the revenue generation across the state,” the lawmaker said.
Modachi called on the council chairmen to submit copies of their budget proposals to the committee for advice.
Speaking earlier, the Chairman, Sokoto North Local Government, Alhaji Aminu Ibrahim, thanked the committee for the proposal.
Ibrahim, who spoke on behalf of the council chairmen, also appealed for more support from the assembly, in moving the local government activities in the state forward.
”The local governments will surely support all measures aimed at bolstering revenue generation,” he said.
