Sen. Ali Modu Sheriff, the National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has appealed to members of the party to follow the party’s constitution in pursuing their political ambition and other related matters.
Sheriff gave the advice on Tuesday in Abuja, while inaugurating four special committees, ahead of PDP May 21 national conventions, scheduled to hold in Port Harcourt.
The committees are national convention, reconciliation, zoning and finance.
He said that there was need for members to be united and address party issues internally.
“Every PDP members has the right to demand for what he intends to achieve within the party, but in doing that he or she should ensure that it is done in line with the party’s constitution.
“No party is run on the pages of newspaper,’’ Sheriff said.
He advised the All Progressive Congress (APC) to stop blaming the PDP for the economic crisis, especially the scarcity of petrol in the country.
“The APC leaders choose to blame PDP for lack of petrol in the country even after one year in office.
“I advice APC to stop blaming us; we are now in the opposition working to reposition our party,” he said.
He also advised the APC to play by the rule of the game in Saturday’s FCT Area Councils elections, while he also called on the PDP members to be of good conduct during the election.
“The PDP believes in one man, one vote. We will not be party of electoral violence, but we will protect our votes.
“We do not want rerun and inconclusive election,’’ he said.
Gov. Nyesom Wike of Rivers, the Chairman of the National Convention Committee, commended the National Working Committee of the party for finding them worthy to serve.
Wike pledged that the committee members would do their best and assured that the convention holding in his state would be peaceful.
Gov. Emmanuel Udom of AkwaIbom, the Chairman of the Zoning Committee pledged that the committee members would work together to arrive at recommendation that would be acceptable.
The Chairman of Reconciliation Committee, Gov. Seriake Dickson of Bayelsa, said that the committee would work with other committees to achieve the task given to it.
The Chairman of the Finance Committee, Gov. Ibrahim Dankwambo of Gombe State also pledge that the committee would do it best to raise the needed fund.
“We will also ensure that all monies mobilised is judiciously used,’’ Dankwambo said.
