TUE, 01 DEC, 2020-theGBJournal- Formula1 governing body, the FIA, Formula 1 and Mercedes-AMG Petronas F1 Team today confirmed Seven-time world champion Lewis Hamilton has tested positive for COVID-19.
‘’In accordance with COVID-19 protocols and public health authority guidelines in Bahrain he is now isolating, the FIA said today in a statement on COVID-19 test result for Hamilton. The FIA said ‘’all contacts have been declared.’’
The positive test effectively rules Hamilton out of the all conquering Mercedes Silver Arrow this weekend at Sakhir Grand Prix in Bahrain.
‘’I am devastated that I won’t be racing this weekend,’’ Hamilton said in response. ‘’….I woke up yesterday morning with mild symptoms and requested another test which came back positive. I’ve immediately gone into self-isolation for ten days.’’
Mercedes-AMG Petronas F1 Team said they will announce their replacement driver plans for this weekend in due course.
Hamilton becomes the 3rd Formula 1 driver to test positive for Covid-19 this season after both Sergio Perez at Silverstone and Lance Stroll in Germany.
