TUE, JUN 09 2020-theG&BJournal- The Senate adhoc Committee looking into the finances of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) has been given the nod to extend their investigation by another four weeks.
Senator Olubunmi Adetunmbi (APC Ekiti North) who heads the adhoc Committee today requested the extension, citing the disruption brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic and late responses from stakeholders who only started sending their responses last week after letter and invitations were sent out. The Committee was set up 4 weeks ago.
Senator Adetunmbi initial request was for a six weeks extension but the Senate President Dr Ahmad Ibrahim Lawan suggested four weeks. He later put the issue to vote and majority in the Senate approved four weeks for the Committee.
The Committees’ assignment was specifically constituted to probe suspected squandering of N40 billion in three months by the Interim Management Committee of the Commission.
‘’I will urge you to focused on the assignment. This investigation has generated a lot of attention and side attractions, but we must not listen to all those things people are saying,’’ Dr Lawan told the Committee members.
