The Senate on Wednesday in Abuja said it would support the value re-orientation project of the Federal Government tagged, “Change Begins With Me.’’

Members of the Senate Committee on Media and Public Affairs disclosed this when they paid a courtesy visit on the Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed.

`Change Begins With Me’ is championed by the Ministry of Information and Culture for national rebirth and value re-orientation.

A member of the delegation, Sen. Shehu Sani, said the project was deserving and timely in order to change the orientation of Nigerians.

“What we need at this very point in time is value re-orientation and ethical revolution which will be achieved with the `Change Begins With Me’ project.

“This is a very serious project that needs adequate funding.

“It should go down from primary to secondary and tertiary institutions and should also be seen in public and private places.

“It should be both physical and spiritual. The message must be sent everywhere,’’ he said.

Sani commended the minister for the initiative of town hall meeting, stressing that it would deepen democracy.

He, however, suggested that the ministry should complement it with e-hall meeting through the social media to allow for larger audience from inside and outside the country.

The senator underscored the need for synergy between the committee and the ministry in information dissemination
He said: “As information managers both from the executive and the legislature, we have a duty to tell the citizen the truth, because it is only the truth that will set everyone free.

“By letting Nigerians know the reality of things we may not necessarily need to defend anything again.
“The socio-economic reality in the country, people need to be rightly informed,’’ he said.

Speaking earlier, the leader of the delegation Sen. Aliyu Abdullahi, underscored the need for the legislative and executive arms of government to work together in addressing the critical challenges of the nation.

Abdullahi, the chairman of the committee said the senate would support the ministry for successful implementation of its projects and programmes.

The minister thanked the delegation for the visit and briefed the members on the activities of its ministry in the information, culture and tourism sectors.

Mohammed said that the visit would show the world that the purported feud between the National Assembly and executive is in the figment of the imagination of mischief makers.

Other members of the delegation were Sen. Yusuf Abubakar and Sen. Rafiu Ibrahim
