WED, FEBRUARY 7 2018-theG&BJournal-The Plateau State Independent Electoral Commission ( PLAISEC) has postponed council elections scheduled for 17th February based on security grounds.
Chairman of PLAISEC Fabian Ntung said the electoral commission received a “communication from the Plateau State Security Council stating that the present security atmosphere in the state generally, is not conducive for the conduct of the forthcoming Local Government Council Election which is scheduled for Saturday February 2018”.
The commission therefore postponed the election till further notice based on the advice of the security council till further notice.
The chairman who stated that the commission was prepared and fully mobilized for the conduct of the election before this development said “as soon as the commission is advised on the conducive nature of the security atmosphere in the state a new date will be announced for the elections” as he urged stakeholders to remain calm.
