FRI JUNE 14 2024-theGBJournal| A sore opener for Scotland in their Euro 2024 opener against mighty Germany.
Totally outclassed by Germany, it was a night to forget for Scotland, letting in five ruthless goals, scored by Florin Wirth 10 minutes into the game, another by Jamal Musiala in the 19th minute, K. Havertz with a blistering penalty in the 45th minute, N. Fullkrug in the 68th minute and finished off by Emre Can in the 93rd minute, goals that left Steve Clarkes men hopeless.
Scotland redeemed one through an own goal scored by defender Rudiger, which gave the traveling hoards of Scottish fans something to cheer. But that was all.
Scotland lost the game to a better team, and they lost with ten men down after R. Porteous was sent off in the first half (44′) of the game for a lunge on Gundogan after VAR review.
Germany have won their last three meetings with Scotland, not losing to the Tartan Army since a 1-0 friendly reverse back in April 1999.
Friday’s clash is the third clash featuring the two teams at a major tournament.
Jamal Musiala was clearly the star of the show. Germany will move on to play Hungary on Wednesday June 19 in Stuttgart while Scotland squares off against Switzerland in Cologne.
