TUE, AUG 11 2020-theG&BJournal-Russia’s President Vladimir Putin, 67, has announced the registration in Russia of the first COVID-19 vaccine, the Sputnik V, and claimed it has even been tested on one of his daughters.
Russia’s news agency quoted Putin as saying, ‘’As far as I know, this morning for the first time in the world, a vaccine against the novel coronavirus was registered.’’
According to the news agency, President Putin meeting with government officials, said the vaccine forms stable cells and anti-body immunity.
‘’I know this very well, because one of my daughters got vaccinated, so in this sense, she took part in testing.’’
Putin told officials that the side effect of the vaccine on her daughter were no-worse than a high temperature.
The country’s health officials said they had completed the clinical trials of the vaccine developed by Gamaleya National Research Centre for Epidemiology and Microbiology of Russian Healthcare Ministry before today’s announcement by the President.
Nikolay Briko, Russian Health Ministry’s Chief non-resident epidemiologist said the vaccine wasn’t developed from scratch, ‘’ Gamaleya National Research Centre for Epidemiology and Microbiology had a serious, significant base on vaccines. The technology of developing such a vaccine was perfected. So perhaps, the process was sped up due to the fact that the vaccine was not created from scratch.’’
Russia says the vaccine will enter into circulation on January 1, 2021 and Binnopharm and Gamaleya National Research Centre are listed as manufactures.
