MON, 24 OCT, 2022-theGBJournal| Rishi Sunak, the ex-Chancellor of the Exchequer will succeed Liz Truss as the next British Prime Minister after Penny Mordaunt dropped out of the Conservative leadership race hours before nominations closed.

Former British Prime Minister Theresa May has sent her congratulations say on her twitter page that ‘’Rishi will provide the calm, competent, pragmatic leadership our country needs at this deeply challenging time. He has my full support.’’

Sunak becomes the first British Asian to ascend to the highest office of the land, a significant moment among the British Asian community.

‘’I have the tack record of delivery, a clear plan to fix the biggest problems we face and I will deliver I will deliver on the promise of the promise of the 2019 manifesto,’’ Sunak told the Tory MPs yesterday as he canvased for their support.

Sunak had gained the support of well over half of Conservative Party MPs, with Mordaunt struggling to garner enough support to get into the ballot.

The rule says a candidate must reach the threshold of 100 MPs to get into the ballot.

Liz Truss is now expected to offer her resignation to the British Monarch, King Charles and Sunak invited to form a new government.

Sunak will be the first Prime Minister the King will invite to form a government. His mother saw to 15 Prime Ministers.
