SUN APRIL 13 2025-theGBJournal| The Rural Electrification Agency (REA) and the Lagos State Government will host a strategic Roundtable on Monday as a part of the Federal Government’s bold efforts to deepen subnational engagement and accelerate electricity market transformation across Nigeria.
The REA – Lagos State Roundtable is a part of the ongoing State-by-State Roundtable Series designed by the REA; a mechanism that continues to aid high-level dialogues while drawing together key decision-makers, private sector actors, development partners, and thought leaders in the energy sector to spotlight the unique opportunities and possibilities within the respective State Electricity Markets.
The REA State-by-State Roundtable is in line with the tenets of the 2023 Electricity Act, passed into Law by His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR. Like other States, Lagos State, as Nigeria’s commercial nerve center and a hub of innovation, presents a critical test case to explore unique opportunities for distributed energy solutions, and grid innovations to meet rising demand and promote economic growth.
The Roundtable will feature the distinguished presence of the Executive Governor of Lagos State, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu; the Managing Director/CEO of the REA, Abba Abubakar Aliyu; Honourable Commissioners; senior officials from the Federal Ministry of Power; energy regulators; private developers; civil society; and the international development community.
In line with the REA Strategic Roundtables, the Lagos session promises robust, forward-thinking discussions focused on collaborative solutions that drive investment, optimize service delivery, and ensure sustainable energy access for the unserved and the underserved residents of the State.
Leaning on the mandate of the REA, under the transformative leadership of the Agency’s Managing Director, Abba Abubakar Aliyu, the REA–Lagos State Strategic Roundtable will serve as an opportunity to exploit the tenets of the NESIP; kick start the Solar Rooftop Initiative under the Distributed Access through Renewable Energy Scale-up (DARES) and strengthen PPPs for data-driven clean energy projects in Lagos state.
It will in addition support the State’s efforts on improved electricity distribution and renewable energy integration; exploring investment opportunities in Lagos State Electricity market and exploring technology options for improved, sustainable energy access in the State.
Stakeholders in the clean energy ecosystem, including private sector players and development finance institutions are expected to participate in the strategic, solution-focused Roundtable.
