MON JUNE 23 2025-theGBJournal| The Qatari Foreign Minister, Sheik Mohammed bin Abdlrahman bin jassim Al-Thani, on Monday announced the temporary closure of Qatar’s airspace in response to mounting tension in the Middle East.

The closure is seen as a precautionary measure amid the fears of retaliation following U.S airstrikes on Iranian nuclear facilities on Saturday, and the relentless, deadly missile exchanges between Iran and Israel.

Thousands of air passengers are expected to face travel disruption amid the cancellations that follows the closure.

More airlines are already suspending flights to the Hamad International Airport, Doha, the Qatari Capital city, a major international travel hub – following the steps of Singapore Airlines, British Airways Finnair and Air France.

Major American and Canadian carriers, before Saturday’s U.S airstrike, had started suspending some flights to the Middle East.

Meanwhile, U.S airbase in Qatar, the Al-Ubeid base, have been attacked by Iran with ballistic missiles, according to reports. .

Qatar authorities and residents are reporting huge explosions over city.

Details of the strikes on the base which is the biggest in the Middle East, are yet to fully emerge. But military sources in the region say the missiles have been intercepted.
