LAFIA, AUGUST 1, 2016 – The President, Nasarawa State Customary Court of Appeal, Justice Jibril Idrisu, on Monday urged Gov. Umaru Al-Makura to provide permanent courtrooms for them.Idrisu made the appeal during the valedictory session in honour of Justice Joshua Alaku at Lafia.

Alaku had just retired after attaining 65 years, the mandatory retirement age.

The president who blamed the court’s plights on lack of financial autonomy said it had been operating in a rented apartment for decades.

He also canvassed that more judges be appointed for the court, saying with the retirement of Alaku, the court could only boast of two judges left.

Idrisu said the court’s judges had made it a point of duty to always dispense with any appeal brought before it in conformity with the saying, “Justice delayed is justice denied’’.

“We made it a policy that judgment and determination on any matter brought before us are concluded within four weeks,” he said.

The Chief Judge of the state, Justice Sulieman Dikko, said plans were in the top gear for a new welfare package for all the judicial staff.

He, however, warned that any judge or staff member caught indulging in corrupt practices would face disciplinary action.

Family members and friends of the retiring Judge, other judges, members of the state branch of the Nigeria Bar Association (NBA) and the Permanent Secretary in state’s Ministry of Justice witnessed the event.
