SAT AUG 03 2024-theGBJournal| Most Nigerian airlines have suspended their domestic operations temporarily citing the ongoing nationwide protests, leaving thousands of passengers without flights.
Scores of passengers and business travelers have also being forced to cancel their schedules, leaving the airlines with huge loses.
Max Air Friday issued a statement notifying passengers of temporary suspension of its domestic flight operations, saying the decision has been made in the interest of ensuring a secure and reliable travel experience.
Earlier, Air Peace had warned their passengers of possible disruption of services due to the ongoing nationwide protest, saying ”that their is possibility that Air Peace Call Centre may experience some delays, leading to reduced availability and longer response time.”
Similar notices were issued by all domestic airlines.
Major airports visited around the country by theGBJournal correspondents saw empty lounges with few passengers standing around and hoping to catch a flight to their destinations.
”We have had a few flights but not with the intensity we’ve seen before the commencement of the protests yesterday, (Thursday),” an airline official at the local airport in Lagos said.
The protest is in its third day today with many cities around the country and businesses still shut and unsure when the protests and disruptions will end.
