MON, MAY 22 2023-theGBJournal |The Presidential Election Petition Court today held that the order sought by the petitioner, to live-stream the proceedings in the Tribunal is outside the scope of the petition.

The petitioners, Labour Party Nigeria and its Presidential candidate, Peter Obi, had applied to the Court to allow their case challenging the declaration of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Bola Ahmed Tinubu as President-elect be aired live nationwide.

In a unanimous ruling, the court held that issues of not televising the proceedings does not amount to a lack of fair hearing on the part of the petition.

Lawyer to Obi and the LP, Awa Kalu SAN had urged the court to grant the application for live telecast of the electoral petition in the interest of the public while counsels for the respondents moved their various counter-affidavits and prayed the court to reject the application for lacking merit and constituting a distraction to the court.
